Wow! We have had a busy time since our last meeting. Eight club members volunteered 30 man hours of labor at Phase 1 of the Y Clean-up on August 28. Together we removed over a ton of yard debris from the front beds of the Y and spread 70 bags of mulch. The Y looks great! We are scheduled to go back September 11 for Phase 2 of the Clean-up. We will be working on the side of the Y and in the grounds surrounding the park area.
We also attended the Hilliard Town Council Meeting to introduce the Club. We were well received and the Council had suggestions to help move the GCOH right along. The Council advised the club to request any funding needed ASAP. The request has been written and will be turned into Hilliard Town Hall this week.
Several Club members met with a Nassau County Representative to discuss planting the front island bed at the library. The County is anxious for us to help with the planting and will be funding the project too! Planting is scheduled for October 9.
Final plans are underway for the Northeast Florida Agricultural Fair in October and Gardenfest in November. Both events offer excellent opportunities for fundraising and publicity. We might just find a new member or two!
Watch the Westside Journal this week. The Y is planning to submit an article concerning our clean-up efforts and there should be an advertisment listing our planned programs for this club year. You might want to clip and save the program list as a reminder of future meetings. We will probably be mentioned in the Hilliard Town Council coverage, as well.
